Um. Erm.

I found out last night that I'll be giving a talk on Sunday.

So.

Am I the only person who gets a talk assignment, all excited about the topic, and then I start to write it and I realize I'm not sure at all which direction I want to go with it?

And also I'm not sure

GROSS! A huge fly just went by my head!

How on EARTH did a huge fly get in here?

Eh.

And also I'm easily distracted?

Um. So, seriously--any thoughts on how you normally approach talk creation?

My advice, procrastinate. Don't you dare be writing anything until Saturday at 10:00 P.M. (Or Sunday morning if you have afternoon church.)

Ugh! I am no good at talks - period.
I usually stress, edit and re-write all week, just to redo the whole thing after midnight on Saturday - and then totally come unglued at the pulpit, just because I'm so exhausted!
Ooops - that wasn't much of a pep talk, was it?
I'm sure you'll wow them!
...and I hope you squashed that fly...

Oh! Love the new look of your blog by the way!

Step 1. Find a way to connect topic to Danites, Blood Atonement and/or Adam God theory.

Step 2. Talk flows naturally to fit the (strained connection)

Step 3. You are never asked to speak again. EVER.

In all honesty, if you're sharing a topic with someone, whatever you do, don't just search on lds.org for the first few articles. That's what your comrades will do and then everyone's subjected to repeated quotes, etc.

Pray a lot, then study a lot. See what direction seems to jump out at you, then run with it. And pray a lot more. :)

Oh! Sorry, Mary. The topic is related to how all are equal in the sight of God, which, according to the gal who called me, could become a talk on how we're all the children of God or just the love of God in general.

And Debs--Hah! Awesome! And also pretty freaky.

Jo, too late; I've already started and nearly finished it.

Or at least the first draft. Pat, I may be rewriting it for the next many days up to and including Sunday morning. We'll see.

Alea, I think that's the perfect way to flesh out my currently skeletal talk. I'm sure I can definitely tie in the Danites...I'll have to work on the other two.

And Kim, I can promise that prayer will be at the top of my agenda for the next few days. And also revision.

Okay. So, I just realized the 'nearly finished' and also 'skeletal' comments kind of didn't go together. Suffice it to say that I've worked out a rough first draft, but I'm not sure if it's really going to be what I'll talk about. I may totally redo it.

So...both terms work? Maybe?
