November 1st has arrived at last, and with it that feeling of fresh new challenges that every new first-of-the-month seems to convey. However, this month has an even fresher (and newer) challenge than usual. As you may have noticed, I've joined the ranks of those attempting to write an entire novel (or at least 50,000 words) within the 30 days of the month of November. (NaNoWriMos, we like to call ourselves, and for more info about our worthy endeavor, you can check out www.nanowrimo.org.)
So at last I have the chance to get started on that novel that's been percolating around my head for roughly the past, oh, week or so... And what do I do, I pray you, good readers? Naturally I sit and blog about writing a novel, without actually getting started.
Ah. The joys of procrastination. Especially when one has a blog. 'Tis joyful indeed.
(But do wish me luck. My sister helped me figure out that one must write about 6 pages of double-spaced 12-point text in order to reach the 50,000 word goal in 30 days. I have high hopes of being certifiably insane by the end of this month. Huzzah! Oh, and for those of you interested in tracking my progress, my NaNoWriMo username is lizardbreathmcgee (in case you didn't catch that in the comment on my previous post). I'll keep y'all updated anyway.)

Ed is encouraging me to post though I'm tired and have no original thoughts or really any desire to write. So this is just to say Hi...we're alive...our baby hasn't come yet...and none of us has yet been declared certifiably insane (though last I checked, insanity didn't require a certificate to be real).
Beth, thanks for your help in putting Ed in touch with me on our moving day. It did make some things better...though that day was still pretty awful. He didn't make it to our rented home until midnight (after the missed flight, etc) and his cab driver getting into a wreck trying to find our house. Yeah. Great day. Luckily he wasn't hurt other than a little whiplash.
Interesting feeling associated with this and the great deal of opposition we experienced getting here. Maybe it can put a new perspective on your atrocious surgery bill. If something is right and of lifechanging importance, all sorts of unpleasantness may occur to derail it.
Our new number is (630)257-9809, and our address is 459 Fourth St Lemont IL 60439.
And it's Megan's birthday tomorrow. Call her, not me, when you read this. (Though I'd love to hear from you too.)
Good luck with the novel! I signed up, too, and am wondering now if I should have. Hmmm....I guess that now it's November 2nd, I should start writing. Hmm...
Hop to, kiddo. Last one to 50,000 words is a rotten egg.
I'd been wondering what this NaNoWriMo business was. Thanks for clarifying, Beth. Does the fact that you have a username mean we can log on somewhere to see what you write?
As for me, I plan to make the weeks between my retirement and childbirth NaPerHisWriMo. That's right, folks, National Personal History Writing Month. Been meaning to do that for a while, and if it doesn't happen before Baby Hendrickson makes her debut, it probably won't happen until I'm about 50.
So wish me luck. My memoirs of life as a bookworm may not be as thrilling as a fantasy novel, but I've always been better at writing history than fiction. Gotta play to my strengths.
Cathy, I'm so sorry that day turned out even worse than I suspected after getting that phone call from Ed saying he was missing his flight. Ick. HOWEVER, I was very happy to talk to you today and hear about your bouncing (or perhaps just 'slurping') baby girl. ;^)
Lindsay, you SOOO have time left, although I'm wondering myself if NaNoWriMo was a good idea... Those 1667 words seem veeeeery intimidating every time I sit down to write.
And Libby--I'm hopping already! :^) I didn't post the first day, but I've got my current word count up there now & I'll try to keep it up to date. (And I swear, I refuse to be a rotten egg.)
And Kim, GOOD luck with NaPerHisWriMo! And good luck with baby Hendrickson! I'm sure you'll do smashingly well with both, you great writer great future mom, you.
Oh! Urg! Kim, I forgot to answer a question you posed. Yoinks! (Was that something Shaggy said on "Scooby Doo?")
The truth is, you can go to the NaNoWriMo site to check out my progress. To view my profile specifically, you can go to: http://www.nanowrimo.org/userinfo.php?uid=155189 or you can go to http://www.nanowrimo.org, click on "Authors," then search for "lizardbreathmcgee." I should come up.
Unfortunately, I'm not really posting any excerpts at the moment. My novel really isn't fit to be seen, and I actually think I'm going to try blitz-writing the whole thing before sharing it, even with my siblings.
(I do like it so far though. Even the not-fit-to-be-seen-ness of it.)
Thanks for the clarification and vote of confidence. :)
And to answer YOUR question, Shaggy's exclamation of choice was, "Zoinks!" Yoinks works in a pinch, though.
