Random Remembering?

Okay, so this is totally 100% optional, and if you choose NOT to participate, I will not mind in the least, nor will I consider you any less of a friend/family member if you decline to post something.

But this is kind of a fun idea, and I've seen it a couple of different places now, so I thought I'd try it as well. So IF you feel like participating, please do. Otherwise, I'll just keep posting as usual.

Here you go:

"1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you."

Funny, I was visiting you just as this popped up - so I'll go first!
I really enjoyed the few times that we had lunch together at KMA - You are so shy, I learned way more about you from your blog than in person.
I always wished that I worked upstairs with you guys, because you seemed to have way more fun than we did! I'm so glad that at least a few of us are bloggers so we can "keep in touch."

Hey, thanks for playing!

Being home and seeing legos everywhere has made me think of the lego games we used to play. But because we were girls, it wasn't so much about building stuff, but making up these dramatic stories about the lego people (and horses).

Hmmm... I remember book store visits with you, and spending lots of time talking about books in your room, and totally raiding your bookshelves.

Also I remember when you were on your mission how you always put stickers on the envelopes, and since I was 9 or 10 at the time, I thought that was pretty much awesome.

I'm with Pat. I have totally learned more about you through your blog than I ever found out by being with you those years at church. What I remember most is your beautiful singing voice. I miss that so much in choir. We all wanted to sit by you or in front of you so we would be sure to sing the right notes since you were never off. You are blessed with a wonderful gift for music.

I have very fond memories of singing to Dermont and Vivian. I especially enjoyed your rendition of the Farm Song. :)

Beth: This is "Auntie". I hope you read this. I haven't checked my computer for a few days. The memory I want to tell you is about the night you were born! We waited all night for you. I spent most of that time at your folks house, (you were born at home)watching with AWE at your mother's ability to get through that horrendous labor and then deliver you "upside down". You were beautiful and the long night was worth it for all of us...particularly your parents. T
Thanks for letting me watch you come into this world. I love you.

This is a bonus memory because I found a publication of the "Young Authors' Showcase" from our school district in CA when we were in Elementary school. You published a lovely story accompanied by an illustration of "Hemet." And it was about the game we used to play: Cuts & Scars. Do you remember? I tried to scan the story to email to you, but it didn't work. So remind me at Christmas and I'll show it to you.

I too remember sharing a room with you and Jo, and "telling each other stories" (although, I will admit it was always you telling us stories for about 30 seconds until we fell asleep, don't really know how long you actually kept story-telling). I remember the fun bathing & showering--we always fought over you, I think because you were the most imaginative. I remember playing in the mud in the backyard (sorry Mom)! :0)

One of my favorite memories of you from our childhood was when you made up a song about how you were a poor little orphan girl and didn't have any parents anymore to love you and care for you. I remember you singing with great big tears falling down your face. You were so earnest! It's very fun to think about!
Love you! I'm glad you're my big sis.

Memories! Oh the memories! There are so many to pick from! I will just choose a few!!

#1 - Serving with you and LUNCHES!! There was never any conversation during lunch, because it seemed you were on a personal quest to read EVERY ENSIGN in the apartment and if you remember we had BOXES of them probably dating back to the 70's!!

#2 - Being short on miles, so we decided to WALK to our tracting street! Well, while tracting it POURED on us! We walked to the nearest members home, SISTER BOYLES!! She let us put our clothes in the dryers and LOANED us some SUPER FUNKY dresses, you wore a FLOURESCENT GREEN ONE and I WORE A FLOURESCENT ORANGE ONE!! Let just mention, she had HATS to MATCH! We borrowed them for a trick on the Elders!!

#3 - The M&M JAR at the RAWLINS house trying to be the one to sit the closest to it during Missionary Planning meetings for the branch.

#4 - The HILERS!! "HIT THE HEAD", "You don't believe in ELECTRICITY, BIRTHDAYS, CHRISTMAS, ETC" The entire DISTRICT sitting at their house at MIDNIGHT the night before the big DIP resolving concerns!! Just the OODLES of GOOD TIMES with them!!!

Wow. I'm kind of amazed at the response, people. I expected maybe two, and I've now gotten two comments from people I didn't even know had found my blog!

I'm so happy.

I think I'll start singing about the little orphan girl. Who found her parents.

I remember that orphan-girl song, too! You were so charming, and deep, even as a four-year-old.

Some of my most fond memories of you were during the year we were roommates at BYU. I remember throwing pillows at you in the morning to get you up. I loved dinner-time with the roommates, and how you kept all of us in stitches laughing, and you could do it all with just the hint of a smile. Do you remember our "Christmas morning," on the the last day before Christmas break, and how we woke up at 6 a.m. to open the presents we'd given to each other? I loved that year. You were my favorite roommate! (Well, second favorite, okay, or else Ben will be miffed).

The very best Beth memory has got to be the sudden shock of joy when I saw you in the temple the day you received your endowment.I was there with my MTC district and had so wanted to visit you in UT before leaving for my mission, but hadn't been able to find you. Suddenly, there you were--and you were going on a mission too!

It seems you've been part of so many pivotal moments that you're deeply enmeshed. You sang at my wedding reception, were in the hospital the day after my first child was born, helped us during long crazy nights with that same little one who didn't know how to sleep. Roommate prayer--kneeling together and getting laughing fits with Joellen, Jin, and Kim. Letters written as 14-year-olds with endless postscripts. Guilt as a 13-year-old because you broke your leg while following me as we jumped on rocks. Helping you memorize "The Highwayman" in 7th grade and being impressed that you cared so much about your language that you altered the line "Though hell should bar the way!" to "Though demons should bar the way!" Working with you in the HBLL. Lots of shared joy and tears.

Beth, I miss you.

All the lovely Sunday conversations as we cruise to and from church in Karl. The deep, the silly, and the somewhere-in-between ones. I have loved and do love them all.
